به واسطه نیاز به جرم های نسوز با کیفیت برتر تلاش برای بهبود عملکرد جرم های دیرگداز ریختنی با کاهش مقدار آب و سیمان صورت گرفت. جرم های ریختنی معمولی به چند دلیل مناسب نبودند:
1- به دلیل نیاز به اب بیشتر به خاطر حضور سیمان بالا، تخلخل افزایش و بالتبع آن دانسیته افت پیدا میکند.
2- افزایش سیمان در ترکیب سبب ایجاد فازهای نقطه ذوب پایین و کاهش دیرگدازی میشود.
3- دهیدراته شدن سیمان در دماهای پایین کاهش استحکام را در پی داشته و نتیجه ان افزایش تخلخل و کاهش دانسیته تا قبل از ایجاد باندهای سرامیکی میشود.
توسعه در این زمینه با استفاده از پودرهای ریزدانه از گروههای رس، کائولن، سیلیس میکرونیزه، الومینای میکرونیزه، منیزیای میکرونیزه و … با پر کردن فواصل بین ذرات سیمان و اگریگیت و افزایش فشردگی و تراکم انجام شد. برخلاف دیرگدازهای معمولی که فواصل بین ذرات با آب پر میشوند، در این جرمها ذرات خیلی ریز فواصل بین ذرهای را پر کرده و به همین دلیل به عنوان مواد پرکننده نام برده میشوند. به دلیل کاهش مصرف آب نیز تراکم ساختار افزایش مییابد. با کاهش آب مصرفی و در نتیجه کاهش تخلخل، استحکام مکانیکی این جرمها افزایش مییابد.
